Azir, "The Ruler of The Sands"(Part 2)
Chapter 2, Azir "The Emperor Of The Sands"
AzirAzir is one of the most iconic champions in League of Legends, with a rich and complex backstory that spans centuries of history in the game's world of Runeterra. His story is closely tied to the history of Shurima, an ancient and powerful empire that was once the dominant force in the world.
Azir was born into the ruling family of Shurima, and he grew up with a deep sense of duty and responsibility to his people. He was an intelligent and ambitious young man, and he quickly rose through the ranks of the Shuriman military, becoming a powerful commander and strategist.
As he grew older, Azir began to realize that the empire of Shurima was corrupted. The ruling class was corrupt and brutal towards their people, and they had lost touch with the needs and aspirations of the people. Azir saw that the only way to save Shurima was to reinvent it, to create a new, more just society that would be built on the principles of inovation, progress, and equality.
To achieve this vision, Azir turned to the ancient magic of the Shuriman sun disc, a powerful artifact that was said to be able to bring about great change in the world. With the help of his most trusted advisers, Azir began a massive construction project to build a new, more powerful sun disc that would give him the power to remake Shurima in his own image.
Shurima, the sun disc can be seen on the background.
But Azir's actions were not without consequences. The construction of the new sun disc caused massive upheaval in Shurima, as the ancient magic that powered it began to destabilize the land itself. The people of Shurima began to suffer from a host of magical afflictions, and the once-great empire began to crumble.
As the situation grew more dire, Azir became more and more desperate to save his people. He turned to the most powerful magic he knew of, the forbidden art of necromancy, to try and raise an army of the dead to defend Shurima from its enemies. But his actions had unintended consequences, as the undead army turned on its living masters and began to ravage the land.
The fall of Shurima had far-reaching consequences for the rest of Runeterra. With the once-great empire in ruins, the balance of power in the world shifted, as new nations and factions vied for dominance in the wake of its collapse. The legacy of Shurima, and of Azir himself, continued to reverberate throughout the centuries, as new champions and leaders rose to power and sought to claim the mantle of the fallen empire.
But despite the many tragedies that befell Shurima, there were still those who remembered the greatness of the empire and its people. Azir's legacy lived on through the ages, inspiring new generations of warriors, scholars, and innovators to dream of a better world and to work tirelessly to achieve it.
Throughout his long and storied life, Azir formed many connections with other champions and leaders in the world of Runeterra. He was a close ally of Xerath, his former friend and mentor who had become corrupted by the power of the Shuriman sun disc. Azir was closely tied to Nasus and Renekton, two powerful warriors who had been raised to guard the ancient ruins of Shurima and who had their own complex history with the empire and its rulers.
As Azir began to rebuild Shurima, he realized that he needed to find his fellow Ascended to help him rule the empire.
The Ascension was a powerful ritual performed by the ancient Shurimans to grant mortals immense power and transform them into god-like beings. The ritual was performed by using the power of the sun disc, a powerful artifact that could harness the power of the sun.
The ascension processAzir and his brother Xerath were two of the most notable individuals to undergo the Ascension. The ritual granted them immense power, as well as immortality and the ability to manipulate the elements. They became known as the Ascended, and they were revered as gods by the people of Shurima.
The Ascension was not without its risks, however. The process was incredibly dangerous, and many who attempted it did not survive. Those who did survive often found themselves consumed by their newfound power, losing touch with their humanity and becoming cruel and tyrannical rulers.
The Ascension was also a source of conflict between Azir and Xerath. Xerath coveted the power of the Ascension and sought to overthrow Azir in order to gain control of Shurima for himself. His attempt at betrayal ultimately led to the fall of Shurima and the corruption of the darkin.
Xerath's ascensionAfter the fall of Shurima, the ritual of the Ascension was lost to time. It was believed to be impossible to perform without the power of the sun disc, which had been lost in the destruction of the city. The first he sought out was his old friend, Nasus, who had been wandering the world for centuries. When Azir finally found him, Nasus was hesitant to return to Shurima, knowing that the ancient empire had fallen into corruption and decay. However, Azir convinced him that the people of Shurima needed him, and Nasus agreed to help him.
Together, Azir and Nasus searched for the third Ascended, Renekton. However, when they finally found him, they discovered that he had been corrupted by the dark magic of the Xerath, who had betrayed Azir and the rest of Shurima. Xerath had manipulated Renekton to turn against Azir and join him in his quest for power. Renekton had become a Shadow Ascendant, and was now Xerath's most loyal follower.
Azir was devastated by this betrayal, and he knew that he had to stop Xerath and Renekton if he wanted to save Shurima. He sought out the advice of the ancient seeress, Sivir, who had once been his lover. Sivir told him of a powerful weapon that could defeat Xerath, a magical item called the Sun Disc. The Sun Disc had been lost for centuries, but Sivir believed that it could be found somewhere in the ruins of Shurima.
Azir and Nasus set out to find the Sun Disc, and after many months of searching, they finally discovered it hidden deep beneath the sands. However, as soon as they found the disc, Xerath and his army of darkin attacked. A fierce battle ensued, and Azir was forced to use the power of the Sun Disc to defeat Xerath.
However, in doing so, he unleashed a terrible curse upon Shurima. The power of the Sun Disc was too much for Azir to control, and it caused a massive explosion that destroyed the city of Shurima and killed thousands of people. Azir was horrified by what he had done, and he knew that he had to make amends for his mistake.
In the aftermath of the explosion, Azir went into hiding, racked with guilt and grief. He knew that he had failed his people and had caused immense suffering, and he could not bear to face the world. However, he was eventually found by a group of darkin, who offered to help him regain his power and defeat Xerath once and for all.
Azir knew that he could not trust the darkin, but he also knew that he needed their help. He agreed to join forces with them, and together they set out to stop Xerath and his Shadow Ascendants. They fought many battles, and although they were able to defeat Xerath, they could not destroy him completely.
Azir realized that the darkin were not his allies, but his enemies. They had their own agenda, and they were using him for their own purposes. He knew that he had to break free from their grasp, and he eventually found a way to banish them from the mortal realm.
However, Azir's actions had far-reaching consequences. The explosion that he had caused had destabilized the entire continent of Runeterra, and had opened up a portal to the Void. The Void creatures began pouring out of the portal, and soon the world was facing a new threat.
Azir knew that he had to take responsibility for his actions, and he dedicated the rest of his life to rebuilding Shurima. Despite his efforts to rebuild Shurima, Azir's plans were turned upside down by the arrival of the darkins.
The darkin, including Aatrox, Varus, and Rhaast, were ancient beings that were created by the sun disc and was once worshiped as gods. However, they were eventually imprisoned in weapons by mortals who feared their power. When they were released, they were consumed by their desire for revenge and began to wreak havoc on Runeterra.
Varus, Kayn and Aatrox
In Shurima, the darkin were a particularly powerful threat, and they posed a significant challenge to Azir and his fellow Ascended. Despite their best efforts, Azir, Nasus, and Renekton were unable to defeat the darkin, and they were ultimately corrupted and controlled by them.
Xerath, was also corrupted by his own desire for power. He saw an opportunity to take control of Shurima for himself and struck a deal with the darkin. In exchange for their power, Xerath would help them defeat Azir and his allies.
Xerath's betrayal ultimately led to the fall of Shurima. The city was sacked, its people enslaved, and its traditions lost to time. Azir's efforts to rebuild the city were in vain, as he was unable to overcome the damage caused by the darkin and Xerath's power.
Slavery was a common practice in ancient Shurima, and it played a significant role in Xerath's rise to power. Xerath was once a slave himself, and his desire to break free from his servitude led him to dabble in forbidden magic. This ultimately led to his corruption and his betrayal of Azir and his people.
The darkin also played a role in slavery in Shurima. They saw mortals as nothing more than tools to be used and discarded, and they had little regard for the lives of those they enslaved. Their actions contributed to the suffering of countless individuals throughout Runeterra.
Aatrox was the one that caused Azir the most trouble.
AatroxAatrox was once a powerful and respected warrior who fought for the protection of his people. He was an Ascended being, like Azir and Xerath, who gained immense power through the ritual of Ascension. Aatrox was known for his unparalleled strength and his unshakable resolve, and he was revered as a hero among his people.
However, Aatrox's life took a dark turn when he became embroiled in a terrible war that threatened to destroy everything he held dear. In a desperate attempt to turn the tide of the war, Aatrox made a deal with the sun disc. He agreed to sacrifice his own humanity in exchange for the power to defeat his enemies.
The cost of this deal was high. Aatrox was transformed into a dark and twisted being, consumed by the very darkness he had sought to use against his foes. He became the embodiment of death and destruction, a being of pure hatred and violence.
Despite his fall from grace, Aatrox remained a formidable force on the battlefield. He continued to fight, driven by his thirst for revenge against those who had wronged him. Aatrox's power grew with each battle, and he became feared and respected by both his enemies and his allies.
Aatrox's story is closely tied to that of the other Darkin, a race of powerful and malevolent beings who were once the protectors of humanity. Like Aatrox, the other Darkin were corrupted by their own power and fell from grace. They were feared and reviled by the people they had once sworn to protect, and they became the stuff of legend and myth.
Aatrox's connection to the Darkin is a source of great conflict within him. He is torn between his desire for vengeance and his desire to break free from the cycle of violence that has consumed him. Aatrox is a tragic figure, a once-great hero who was consumed by the very darkness he sought to fight.
Despite his dark nature, Aatrox is not without his redeeming qualities. He is a complex and nuanced character, with a deep sense of honor and loyalty. He has a determination to protect those he cares about, even if it means sacrificing himself in the process.
My favorite quotes from him are: "I touched the stars, and saw the light of a thousand suns! Now, blinded by this elegance; how could my purpose be anything but the dark?" And "I begged for death.. now, I am its bringer!"
Aatrox led his fellow darkin, Varus and Rhaast, to Shurima, where they began wreaking havoc on the city. Azir, along with his fellow Ascended Nasus and Renekton, fought valiantly against the darkin, but they were ultimately overpowered. The darkin defeated and corrupted Azir, Nasus, and Renekton, turning them into vessels for their power.
For centuries, Azir lay dormant, trapped within his own mind, while his body was controlled by the darkin. It was only with the help of Xerath, who had been corrupted by his own lust for power, that Azir was able to break free of the darkin's control.
Together, Azir and Xerath battled against the other darkin, eventually sealing them away once again. However, the damage had already been done. Shurima was in ruins, and Azir had lost everything he had worked so hard to build.
Despite his failure, Azir continued to fight for Shurima's survival, even after his death. He returned as a spirit to guide his descendants, and he even helped to defeat another darkin, Kayn, during the Noxian invasion of Shurima.
Azir's legacy lives on in the sands of Shurima, where his descendants continue to honor his memory and strive to rebuild their once-great civilization.
Shuriman generals in battleIn conclusion, Azir is a complex character with a rich history that is closely tied to the fate of Shurima and the rest of Runeterra. His connections to other champions, including Xerath, Nasus, and Renekton, help to deepen our understanding of his character and the events that shaped his life. Through his struggles, Azir teaches us the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity, and his legacy serves as a reminder of the power of hope and determination in the face of impossible odds.
My favorite quote from him is: "the future will be written by the ascended!"
